My poetry

From my book Profound Reverie

Since you are gone, I collect the stars each night -

building my own night sky,

so I have something to hold onto forever.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

Art: an earnest love for an immortal lie.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

It is okay if you change every once in a while;

even the sky needs to let go of its stars

to give the sun a home for a while.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The more I write about us,

the more our love feels like art.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

You can't keep away the waves from the one shore they fell in love with;

they will return each day, carrying the same hope.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Sometimes we destroy our love

with the selfishness of being loved.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The fear of falling for the wrong reasons

only prevents you to grow wings for the right ideas.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The most delicate suffering I ever felt

was when I got lost in the idea

of loving someone too much.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

How could we ever

describe something so beautiful

 yet broken

 in other ways than "in love".

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

This golden field

covered in stars above -

the empty night

and the feeling of love.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Some expect everything.

Some expect nothing.

And at the end of the day,

we all look at the same world -

just with different colours in mind.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

If your love is golden

then let me paint its details

with the silver of my heart -

- so you can become a work of art.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Even a simple drop of love

can change the entire ocean

of ones being.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We made a home

for our wishes in the stars;

while forgetting

that they were only meant

to be the beginning.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We hold on to minutes

 that cost us years

 but are only worth a second.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I counted the stars for you every night

only to realise at the end of our love

that you had only eyes for the moon.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I'll keep on counting

the endless sea of stars each night

and hope that at some point

I will finally forget the few letters of your name.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

No love defines us as much

as the losses we have made in its name.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Sometimes truth is an act of love

not many hearts can endure.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We can be still

whoever we want to be

without facing our past.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Just lay down

 in the silence of my solitude;

see all the flowers blossom -

kept away from anybody's love;

no hand that could change

the way in which they grow

and the colours they smile in.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The dreamers

The ones who dare to dance along the lines of darkness

in the gloom of June -

the ones who drown in a sip of golden sunlight

in the middle of their bloom -

& the poets who draw their ink

from the ivory veins of the moon.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Those scars mark a battlefield on my own body -

for there was a war fought with ink and love;

a tyranny defeated in my own heart

for the sake of my soul.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We can not carry far the cages of our minds -

for every bird in it sings of freedom,

and every thought eventually becomes a key.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

A bird has to sing such as every heart has to love -

and if you rob one of them of their art -

where should they go?

For all they have ever known lays bare in silence.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The October rain writes cursive letters on my window once again;

Poem after poem it has to tell, becoming an ocean in my hands;

Words and words it asks of me to write, while the bottle

fills up with tears - just to be emptied with sorrow in the pale morning light;

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I wanted you to be my most extraordinary thought -

instead, we always fought;

And I longed so badly for your heart -

and yet everything that stayed after each night was your art

that you hid from me so perfectly;

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The pale blue shadows of the pines

remind me of the lake we used to drown our love in;

And the dark grass we lied our thoughts down

outgrew our minds;

(So tell me - where to go

when even the woods

grew tired of our love?)

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I looked for death in spring -

for I dared not to see it in the light of summer;

for summer held only gold -

and death was looking for silver.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And the red wine stains on your lips turned violet -

while the night slowly drowned in the same shade on the horizon.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I could build entire worlds with the words you lay in my heart -

and I could starve with every kiss you steal from my mouth.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Rome is a mirror of embellished morality  -

where every saint can become a sinner & every sinner becomes art.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I knew that my heart would suffer

if I choose to make it a part of yours.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

In order to find the right place -

you have to leave the one

who feels like home.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Everything we may see in the morning light

always turns out to be not that gold -

and everything that shines silver at night

may be only borrowing the light of the stars.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The cages we build ourselves are the most powerful -

 for everything that could set us free is locked in with us.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Art is created in the most desperate moments and darkest cells -

for we have to be there forever with it - so we create the most beautiful.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I stood at the edge - where the mind is blank, and the body is numb of shaking;

where the scars bleed red again, and the thoughts are trembling.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Violet gardens and silver streams -

longing for paradise while pitying those dreamers;

searching for words, yet not even the poets have seen.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

My only tragedy was that I found love in something I knew I would lose.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

These aching moments filled

with a vision inside my head -

seeing my lines bathed in golden light

while reflecting the hurt in the ivory glow

of the pages I hold.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

You walked along my lines

and kept shelter behind my words -

(and in the end

you became my art).

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

A love in exile still seeks

and every heart eventually becomes a home.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

There is a crimson stain

on your love -

drowning my soul

from the inside out.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Beyond these words

I ask you of nothing;

for everything

I hoped for

stayed between these lines.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I invite my soul to trace the edges of my heart -

for everything it gave and ever took was art.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I fell in love with everything I once lost

and now I never want to turn back;

because I would lose the way it feels -

forever.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Gentle falls dawn

on those amber thoughts of doubt.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I never thought

that I would build memories around people

only to make a home out of them.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The fire that burnt me once

kept on gleaming -

so I kept on searching in the ashes

for something that could light up my soul again.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

(Persephone)

You've held her hidden in your own shadow

and hoped that her love would bloom -

knowing that every colour that she carried

would never die for you.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I kept you buried

underneath my scars -

never leaving those thoughts

that gave the ink to my art.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Your light

led me back to your heart -

and every mistake

we have ever made

found its home too -

at last.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

To keep holding onto something

 that is long gone

 is like existing

 inside a void of emptiness

 that could have been

 an entire universe by now;

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

If I could be

at least a spark inside your fire -

I would burn forever for you.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I've searched too long to feel lost;

So everything that separated us

became a part of us eventually.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I touched the line between us

and felt the stars inside

reaching over for the other side;

It seemed like the abyss

filled with gold inside your eyes.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And the pale blue light

of the horizon last night

painted your eyes in the colour

of wasted ink and forgotten thoughts.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I felt the gentle kiss of rain in September

and watered my flowers of June with it;

for whatever my future holds

it is much more fragile with my past in it.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Summers haze paints words more golden.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I will wait for you - just not here;

somewhere everything feels right

- even you.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We all burn too bright

for things that keep on fading.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I place my soul upon your heart -

for flowers like mine only bloom on wounds

that will bleed forever.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We always see the horizon

the clearest

while everything else

is fading away.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Stars are only places

where we lay down our love

so it can dream on forever.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

So we fade into the morning;

 like broken stars drowning inside the sky.

Leaving nothing behind but a wish

 that holds our place instead.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We either die or live for something;

And between those two

there is only love.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The thing about freedom is

 that it defines its own borders.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

A page is by far the loneliest place

where one's love can exist.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The truth is merely found

in words meant for eternity.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And some endings

are dancing carefully

on the edge of one's love.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I want to get lost

inside the idea of love

without tearing my soul apart

for everything other than you.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

There is nothing

more painful in this world

 than to be in love

with something

that will never be.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

There is a rare kind of sadness

 every time I see the sun disappear

 behind the horizon -

 being embraced every morning

 by the moon's most beloved stars.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We should never allow

 the scars on our heart

to change the way we love -

 no matter how deep they run.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Let's dance to the tranquil melody of our love;

 a waltz of peculiar sadness & profound melancholy.

 Underneath the velvet night sky of sombre thoughts -

 witnessed only by the most vivid stars.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

For one's young love

lives beside the withering flowers

of an evanescent summer.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The tragedy of love is not the past.

It lays in the years that follow

carrying the same heart.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I always wanted to be defined by love -

never understanding

that these hearts suffer the most.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I faded inside the flames you call home;

for your love was a tempting light

in the darkness of my mind.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The way the universe

keeps whispering to the stars

about you

makes me wish

that they would fall

more often

so I can hear about it.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

For my love

is as delicate as a flower;

needing careful hands

to water the colours

of my soul.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We hide our love so good

from the world

while our souls are already

dancing with each other.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

They told us

that we could be whatever we want -

and we chose to be in love.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Even time itself

will know someday

that it can never

be a part of our forever.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The universe is filled

with broken fragments of our hearts

we call stars.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And some of the brightest flowers

bloomed in solitude.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And the truth is

that not every love

feels like poetry.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We can not fully understand love

until we suffered a loss in its name.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Our souls are not meant to outlive pain;

they are created for carrying broken hearts

further than any other living thing ever can.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Art completes our hearts.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

She lived with too many ghosts inside her mind -

maybe that's why she became one herself in the end.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

While others feared the ghosts of the past, she fell in love with them.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

What our love dreads the most

is the fear of never loving -

not the thought of following

the wrong heart.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Everything

that learns how to dance

without love

should never be put

inside the cage

you call your heart.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Memories are not always a prison -

sometimes they can be a key too.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The colours may change

but the sky stays the same.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

You have to be the right one -

because everything else

feels so wrong without you.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Loneliness is a part of life -

not the end of it.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Everything

outside of our mind is endless -

so why limit oneself?

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And the home we build for our love

ended up keeping it out of its own walls.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I wrote so much about our love

that the feeling itself turned into art.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The scars of my heart wore ivory

and the lines on my mind told crimson lies.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The ink I write with

is borrowed from the stars -

too blue to be the sky

and too dark to be its night.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I kept every letter - only to be remembered

of the wrong one’s words can cause (to the heart).

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Twice my heart broke

for a love so delicate as my own;

and yet I did not find a piece

of myself in between those lines.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And I kept each piece

that the night offered me -

for the night was full of you.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Love is too much for our generation -

that’s why it dies inside our hands but blooms at our feet.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

For the ink is the same each day -

but the words are blooming in colours

no one has ever seen;

for my words are flowers,

and your love is a garden.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Shallow are the hearts

that bloom beside empty dreams.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We all live with our own lies -

that is why somebody else’s truth

changes so much.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We’ve all carried too much -

maybe that’s why,

when we lay down something,

it feels like everything is leaving, and yet -

too much remains.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

You can not break my heart

and call the lines you write on art.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The right way to admire something is to love it unconditionally.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

There is something tragic within one's love.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

A reverie is one soul’s river - but a word is one heart’s vein.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

There is a part of you I can't entirely forget -

where my memories grow flowers and

our past outreaches the gates of my garden;

where the words I rather forget become a book of regret.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

While we keep on dancing,

our souls delicately embrace.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

My love dances quietly,

so it does not wake

the memories of you.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We all admire the night sky and its infinite beauty; not realising that everything in it shines for its own. And maybe that's the reason why empty hearts and lonely souls crave these quiet hours.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And even of his roses

only thorns remained.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Champagne lips and tired eyes

under endless velvet skies —

a love living only for the highs.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We were never supposed to be in love-

for everything that exists inside a heart

eventually dies.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Pain changes the way we love.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We do not always have to be a part of the universe; even the stars fall out of place.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

There is nothing more painful

in this world

than to be in love with something

that can never be.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And between all

those eternities

you realise that art & love

my be the only things

that stay long enough

inside one's soul

to make an impression.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Aren't we all starving -

just for different hearts?

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We all change.

Yet, not everybody grows.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And we will always believe in love -

for pain only touches the feeling

yet never conquers the heart.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The space between our stars

holds a poem of mine

even the moon has not dared to read;

Its lines are so delicate

that even the sun

does not dare to burn them.

For my love lives inside eternity

yet seeks mere moments (with you).

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And the silver of your lips

could never match the gold of your words.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The meadows lay weeping

with tears like an emeralds gleam;

while every nightingale is seeking

the shelter of its only willow's green.

-

And silently,

my step falls on leaves

that carry me much further than I'd dream;

for willows and thoughts are fading slowly

while everything eternal is not seen

and yet they keep

so many of us in good company

for some can not be on their own,

nor can they be free.

-

So I found peace,

the one eternal each one seeks

and so I left my soul for emerald's gleam;

while the meadow still lays weeping

with grief over my grave so quietly

for it lays beneath the shadow

of its only willow's green.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I used to paint the world golden

while drowning inside the silver of your words.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We've carried too far

every broken heart.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The lights are gone

yet your absence makes

even the darkness tremble

for nothing feels as empty as a place

without you.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

We can rest on each other's hearts - yet our dreams keep on wondering.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

And if everything we love

is considered art

then our love is

the greatest masterpiece.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

I touched each star

you collected for me in vain;

Only to see my sky fade

inside the glimmer of a dream.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Our days grow shorter

and so we drift even further apart

from each other's light.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

The way we keep love from each other should be considered art - for we do it so flawlessly.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Somber are my thoughts

for they are vivid;

And gentle is your kiss

for it will be the last.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)

–––––––

Everything exceptional is found within the natural absence of greatness.

- Laura Chouette (Profound Reverie)
